In view of the growing emergence of India as the Technology R&D hub of many large multi-national corporations, the IIT EU Alumni Association decided in its 2008 program to bring students & research scholars of IIT and other educational institutions in India and Europe closer to European and Indian industry in key sectors. Two areas were identified for this year:
Like India, Europe is also largely dependent on oil and gas imports, mostly from the middle east. Some European countries have developed a strong nuclear industry. There is also a growing renewable energy sector. It is generally accepted that energy supply and delivery in India has to grow dramatically in order to improve the standard of living. The current Indian plan for growth of energy supply calls for exploiting all sources. Renewable and nuclear technologies are particularly important because of global warming considerations. These are the concerns in Europe as well.
The transportation sectors in Europe and India have similar models. Land usage patterns creating pockets of high population density have necessitated networks of rail transportation and multi-size aircraft, complemented by small and energy efficient cars in urban centres. This model has to be continuously improved to bring down road congestion and environmental pollution while keeping industries humming. Indian made products are expected to be competitive globally in price & quality as current processes are improved and scaled up to meet growing market needs.
The IIT EU Alumni Association would like to provide a forum for facilitating collaboration of industry and academia in Europe and India. To ensure an efficient and fruitful exchange, we’re inviting European and Indian industry leaders and scholars to meet during 3 successive events spaced 3 months apart
